Talks and Classes

Talks:

My journey into Quilting
, 1 hour talk: zoom or in person £160

How graduating from a fine art Sculpture degree led me into millinery and the world of fashion and from there how I discovered quilting. How these influence my quilting process from making mood boards, sketching, travelling to China for work and designing from the computer.

From Trend to Hat
, 2 hour talk: zoom or in person £250

Having worked in the fashion industry for over 19 years, I give an insight into the process from building a trend through to selling a range or ranges of hats (although this could be used for nearly any creative product). How to create a cohesive range which includes various price points and designs, what to consider and how to present this to customers.

Workshops:

Hat sketching, 3 hour lesson: zoom or in person £35 per person (minimum 10 people)

This lesson will give you the confidence and skill set you need to draw heads, hats and fascinators so that you can capture your millinery design ideas on paper. I will run through how to draw a number of standard hat shapes which will allow you to sketch new form ideas as well as looking at how to add texture and details to make your ideas come to life. Perfect for sketching beginners!

Letting go and pushing through
, 3 hour lesson: zoom or in person £35 per person (minimum 10 people)

You will learn how to find and channel your quilting voice without rules or rulers. Letting go of strict rules and techniques and going with the flow. Being directed by your heart and not your head! Creating an element of surprise using a loose colour palette while adding and subtracting design elements as you go. A guide to creating a practical piece of abstract art, creating interesting shapes and compositions and using negative space. Honing the unplanned. Need to be able to use a sewing machine to a basic level.
